In 1996 through 1998, he served as the front ensemble instructor for the Santa Clara Vanguard.

David believes lessons learned from drumming can reach further into the student's lives than just music. He has a true gift for connecting with students and helps them become passionate about what they are doing. David's goal has always been to provide students with a foundation of percussion music from fundamentals to live performances to gain confidence and not be afraid to explore their passions through music and life experiences.

Located in the San Francisco Bay Area and led by band director John Burn, Homestead High School has built one of the leading band programs in Northern California over the last ten years. The marching band has been a WBA 5A Finalist every year since 2005, including a third place finish in 2010. The band has been a BOA finalist at each regional it has attended, and marched in the 2011 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. The Homestead Wind Ensemble earns high ratings at regional and international festivals including performances in Carnegie Hall in 2011 and 2007, the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia in 2009, and a performance scheduled in the Musikverein in Vienna, Austria (home of the Vienna Philharmonic) in July 2014.

The marching percussion program has exploded over the last decade, with close to 50 students participating in fall and/or winter seasons. The marching drumline is the 2010 WBA 5A champion and 2012 runner-up. In 2013 the indoor marching percussion ensemble made its debut performance at the WGI World Championships in Dayton Ohio, and achieved finalist status in the Scholastic World division.
