Director of Bands

Jay Webb, Conductor, has been the Director of Bands at Avon High School in Avon, Indiana since 1993. In that time, the Avon Band has consistently been at the forefront of the scholastic pageantry activity. Avon is recognized as one of the premier band programs in the Midwest. more

All aspects of the Band program strive to achieve at the highest national levels with participation in Winterguard International, Bands of America, and Indiana State School Music Association events. Webb brings a variety of experiences ranging with performances with the Bridgemen Drum and Bugle Corps from Bayonne, New Jersey to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Webb is a graduate of Butler University in Indianapolis (B.M.E. 1991). He has memberships that include Pi Kappa Lambda, Indiana Bandmasters Association, Indiana Music Educators Association, and was the founding member of Indiana Percussion Association. Webb was inducted into the WGI Hall of Fame in in 2008. Currently, he serves on the Percussion Task Force for Winterguard International and as an adjudicator for Drum Corps International and Music for All.

Avon High School - Avon, Indiana

The Avon marching band, Avon Marching Black and Gold, led by Jay Webb, Matt Harloff, and Robert Burns, was ranked number one in the state of Indiana by the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) seven years in a row (two times in Class B, five times in Class A). The winning streak ended during the ISSMA state championship on November 1, 2008, when they placed second by one-tenth of a point. They again placed first in Class A on October 31, 2009 and the following year on October 30, 2010. On November 15, 2008, they placed first for the first time in the school's history during Bands of America Grand National Championships, a national competition in which 80 to 90 high school marching bands compete every year. Avon scored a 97.75, out of a possible 100 points. It is the highest score received at any Bands of America event. On November 14, 2009, Avon successfully defended its title as BOA Grand National Champion, making them the first band since 1991 to win that title consecutively. On November 13, 2010, Avon once again defended their National title, making them the first band to win the title three consecutive times since Marian Catholic in 1989.

The band has been selected to perform in the 2012 New Year's Day Rose Parade in Pasadena, California.
